How do you avoid electronics and wire clutter without furniture? That was the question I asked when trying to achieve a minimalist approach to tackling my son’s growing pile of gaming gear. I absolutely despise wires dangling under televisions and the last thing we wanted was more overpriced and bulky furniture to hide the mess.
Stephanie Skov at Floating Grip was faced with the very same problem when she moved-in with her gamer boyfriend in 2012. Two years later Stephanie had fully realized the Floating Grip Wall Mount System and has grown her brand to support the growing array of gaming consoles (incl. Nintendo Switch!) and video gear.
Floating Grip Wall Mount System
The genius of Floating Grip is in its simplicity. Gaming consoles, controllers, and streaming boxes seemingly float in mid-air utilizing the patent-pending mounting pegs and cord combination. Installation is an absolute breeze and the results are nothing short of breathtaking. Here are 4 reasons the Floating Grip earns our recommendation.
The Floating Grip is extraordinarily low-key. The product keeps the device snug against the wall with very little of the mounting materials visible after installation. Gaming consoles appear to be mounted directly to the wall like a piece of art. The design eliminates any need for furniture, saving us precious space and dollars.
While the Floating Grip utilizes a cord that wraps around our PS4, securing it to the wall, the console still retains all of its functionality. Power and eject buttons, power and HDMI ports, and of course, the disc drive slot are still accessible. This thing is absolute magic.
Floating Grip has provided almost everything (you’ll need a drill) to complete installation quickly and easily. Included with the product are a mounting template, philips head bit, and drywall anchors. Installation details are provided below. Spoiler alert: it’s easy!
Free Fast Shipping to U.S.
As for the business side of things, Floating Grip is a Danish company. As such, the product is packaged and shipped from Denmark. However, Floating Grip is shipped absolutely free to a number of countries, including the U.S. and Canada. Despite its origin and U.S. Customs check requirement, the Floating Grip arrived lightning quick.
The first step in installing Floating Grip is deciding where best to mount your device. In my installation I chose to the right of the television so that the PS4 maintained correct orientation and the cables ran directly toward the TV set. I also installed an Apple TV mount just below the PlayStation and a bank of Dualshock controllers to the left of the television.
Drill Anchor Holes
Next, tape the included template to the wall and mark where you’ll need to drill holes for the drywall anchors. Insert the plastic anchors into the wall and attach the Floating Grip pegs.
Hang and Attach Cord
Once all pegs are securely attached to the wall, hang the mounting cord from the pegs per the instruction diagram or one of Stephanie’s numerous YouTube demo videos. Wrap the cords around the console and be amazed at how it seemingly floats in mid-air! Start gaming!
If you’re looking for an ultra-cool and affordable alternative to dangling cables and expensive furniture, look no further than Floating Grip. A short peruse of Stephanie’s website is a clear indication this entrepreneur is fully invested in the customer experience and satisfaction of the product. Prices average $25-$30 for console mounts and $25 for a pair of controller mounts, although you can save by purchasing a bundle. Apple TV mounts are $15 bucks. Shipping is free to the U.S.
