2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport
“Dad! The sky is blue today!,” an exuberant 6-year old proclaimed from the backseat of our 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport. You see, blue sky’s are a rarity in the early months of the year in Michigan. While beautiful in the spring and summer, our state takes on a muted and dull palette on the flip side. The boy made his discovery with eyes affixed, peering through a large glass ceiling above. It’s one of those simple yet inspiring features found on this vehicle. There’s plenty to like about the Outlander, but also plenty of criticisms from a family of five. This car just isn’t made for us.
Outlander Sport Exterior
Upon initial inspection, the Outlander looks young and agile – very reminiscent of it’s brand name. The nose of the vehicle features a grill that’s easy on the eyes, almost like three-dimensional carbon fiber. The fog lamps are placed so deep in the bottom corners, that it makes the vehicle appear wider than it really is, and wider is always better. While not my usual cup’o’tea, the shape of the Outlander Sport grew on me quickly.

Outlander Sport Interior
For what is classified as a compact crossover, the Outlander Sport was much more generous in cabin and cargo spaces than I expected, however it’s just not big enough for our family. The Outlander Sport seats four comfortably and we’re a family of five. I wouldn’t recommend this car for families of any size, but a fresh-out-of-college professional will find style, convenience and technology features that are easy to fall in love with. The crown jewel is the beautiful sight-lines provided by a ton of glass, including almost the entire roof. It’s a simple yet stunning feature on this automobile. Check out some of the “outlandish” fun we had posing with the car.
Outlander Sport Technology
The audio system in the 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is backed by a massive Rockford Fosgate subwoofer molded neatly in the vehicles trunk and expertly aimed speakers throughout the cabin. Kicking up the bass a few notches certainly churns the stomach, adding to that prominent youthful aura. I introduced my son to some classic Beastie Boys jams on our trips to baseball practice. We had quite the outrageous time jamming this system. One criticism – the head unit is rather difficult to navigate and took some time to program. I’ve come to appreciate the simplicity and power of the Mazda head units and controllers.
Outlander Sport Driving Perfomance
You wouldn’t guess the 2015 Outlander Sport is a 4-cylinder front-wheel drive judging by the surprising quickness off the line and through the first few gears. It has an aggressive power band that excited me as a speed enthusiast. It handles well too, but at high speeds in tight corners I could feel slight rolling. The Outlander is backed by an amazing 10yr/10,000 mile power train warranty.
Overall Experience
I can’t say I didn’t have a ton of fun discovering the 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport. This is one of my favorite auto manufacturers by far. But looking at this vehicle through the eyes of a family man, I can’t imagine owning one. This is a young person’s car that offers extreme safety and technology features. It’s spacious, although not big enough for families.
